A Library Blog

One library blog that I regularly read is Disruptive Library Technology Jester. This is an active blog that discusses the use of technology in libraries, and how it is changing the field of librarianship. He presents the idea that libraries are changing, whether we like it or not, and that we should stay informed in order to keep up. The blog provides information and opinions on current events in the world of library technology. I find this blog invaluable because it gathers current technological information stories from all over the Internet, and provides explanations on why the information is relevant (or not) to librarians. He often includes helpful background information on each topic, which I greatly appreciate. I also enjoy the humor.

To me, a successful library blog depends on the writer's knowledge of the field (especially current events), writing ability, sense of humor and/or irony, and a commitment to regular posting. It is often difficult to find all of these together, and not all successful blogs have all four, but the ones that I enjoy the most generally do.

And for a little fun, I also enjoy reading Awful Library Books, because it's hilarious, and a reminder that weeding the collection is very important!
